Do You Want to See my Holiday Snaps? Er… Not Really!

So after a plethora of coach rides, cattle herding exercises and other unspeakably touristy gimmicks, we get up to the top of the mystical and magical Wonder of the World, Machu Pitchu and…

It looks like Richmond Park on a very foggy and damp morning.

In fact it could be anywhere.

Oh no! Terrified that this might be it, and that they may not get that social media post that will elevate them in the eyes of friends and followers, the throng gets out their phones and…

It’s hilarious. There are people standing on the edge of a misty crevice taking pictures of, well…

Mist.

Or mist with some dark misty shape behind it.

I’ve never had a better day. In fact, there are people jostling to get the best view of -  the swirling mist.

It’s a feeding frenzy! And oh for the gratification our small selves crave, and the dopamine hit that this ultimate mist-inspired social media post will give us…

And now, in an insane effort to prove it, folks are pointing to where the mountain should be, and then taking a photo of their hands pointing - at mist. Couldn’t I do this at home?

I’m momentarily swept up in the manic, un-godly craziness. This might be it!

Quick…

Then, unshrouded by the mist are the remains of a magnificent civilisation that lay undiscovered for 400 years.

Mystery (sorry) reveals itself to us in its own time.

And as you might be, I long to be the only soul here. So I’ve got some space to get present. To take a moment to feel. To connect with that un-namable mystery that puts my heartbeat into perspective. So I can lie down, surrender and become part of it all…

But there’s no time for that. We’ve got to get round in two and a half hours, and we’ve got to take as many pictures as possible in that time.

_____

Are you on a journey this year?

Perhaps it’s going around the corner to comfort your neighbour in their grief. Or you’ve made a commitment to spend more time with your family, or offer a daily act of service or kindness to someone you know. Or maybe you’re shaking your life up in a bigger way, brushing the edges of adventure, letting go of your steering wheel for a while..

What are you learning? What wonder do you feel? What shut away part of yourself are you meeting? What fulfilment are you discovering?

That’s what interests me about you.

Not your bucket list pictures.

Although, those two you posted are very cool.
