Lights for Truth in a Darkening World

An older man stands up and says a few words. Moments later a much younger woman joins him, and says a few more words.

I’ve never felt closer to a political stage. What about you?

The elder and the artist, weaving their dreams together for truth, healing and democracy.

There’s usually a smidgen of self-importance in politicians, but I didn’t feel much in Joe Biden. He stands and - speaks. After Trump, it’s so refreshing it’s almost too good to be true. To see a statesman, someone who’s known personal tragedy and lived its redemption, stand in his centre, a relaxed body, and allow the truth that’s been waiting to be said, to flow through him.

Truth wins. Extremists, conspiracy theorists and narcissists fall. We need this medicine.

This isn’t just a pair of professional presenters, or skilfully trained practitioners of the stage casting their creative spell, these are two voices where the soul is speaking. An elder in his years of wisdom, a youth in her rite of passage.

Two lights that had been in waiting all this time.

Poetry opens doors for the soul. Amanda Gorman knows this. She knows of a deeper truth, and she takes a stand for it. She gives form to what so many long to hear.

The soul speaks, the deeper self is seen, the healing words of personal artistry resound, the human spirit shines through. I feel them both and sense their heartbeat. I feel love and loss behind their eyes.

There’s not an inch of cleverness.

Do you stand up and speak to others? What do you feel in your body?

Do you wonder how Joe Biden and Amanda Gorman both do that?

Breathe. Have faith in your content. Give attention to your heartbeat. Be open to your feelings. Be playful.

Let go.

Trust that it’s a dance where you’ve learnt the steps already.
